Subject: Standard Siamese Dream set, with a few interesting set "firsts"
Subject: Standard Siamese Dream set, with a few interesting set "firsts"
A standard Siamese Dream era show. Billy's vocals have improved since the beginning of the tour a week earlier.
The set features the first recorded live ... version of Drown going straight into Hummer. As for the opener, I've always found Disarm a bizarre choice to start the set with. Same goes for Soma. Something to do with starting the show with a slow song, especially when the majority of the rest of the set is loud and bombastic. As for the Drown/Hummer combination, this transition eliminated the extended feedback solo at the end of Drown, and connected it to the first riff of Hummer, eliminating that song's drum intro. This transition would be used on most of the future performances of the songs throughout the tour, save for a few performances where one or the other was still played as a standalone. In the case of Hummer, the drum intro would not return, and the song would be played with a simple chord introduction with feedback, and then proceed directly into the first riff of the song. Also of note about this show is that it's one of only two known shows from the SD era where they don't play "Cherub Rock" (the other show being Santa Barbara 10/23). A strange omission given that the song was the lead single from the new album. The setlist here only features 12 songs (most shows on the tour featured 13-15), so perhaps this suggests that there is an additional encore missing from this source? Although, given the parting words of "Thank you motherfuckers" from Billy after Silverfuck, I'm guessing that this isn't the case, and the band just played a slightly shorter show. Still a good performance nonetheless.
The sound of the recording is good and clear, although some subtle tape "swishing" sounds can be heard at times throughout the show.
